Poor experience with this company. The technician was very prompt, polite and professional but learnt upon his visit that they don’t carry the right parts for our kind of garage doors. I wish they had made it clear during the intake process. When I wrote to the office manager about this issue, I was hoping they would credit the charge or at least apologize. On the contrary,, she threatened with a concocted up story on how I used profanity with the technician. I am amazed how businesses treat their repeat customers. Well, they lost one such today.
- Kapil Kapoor
Kapil Kapoor- We are very sorry to learn of your disappointment in the service appointment. This is contrary to what we strive for each day with every customer. The service fee included a 25 point safety inspection on both of your garage doors and both operators. We did offer a universal weather seal option for you, which you declined. If you wanted to have the weather seal installed, the service fee would have covered the installation. We are in business to provide the best garage door service and experience for our customers. Nothing was concocted or made up or threatened. Your initial message to the office included that we had lost you as a customer and you would be writing reviews and passing the word. We were never given the opportunity to have a respectful conversation. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / Precision Garage Door Northern VA

I would never use this company again and would not recommend this company to anyone. On July 26, a technician came out and replaced the broken spring on our garage door. We left the state on July 31 and came back on the evening of Sept 1. We opened and closed the garage door to put the car in, then opened the garage door again to get something out of the car, and the cables on both sides of the door came off (did NOT break but came off) and wrapped around the crossbar at the top. We could not lower the door. I called Precision the next and explained what had happened and was immediately told there was NO WARRANTY and the best they could do was send someone out in two days. I said I didn't think this was a warranty issue because obviously it was not assembled correctly when installed. I was told it was working when the technician left. I said I don't think I should have to pay for it to be fixed. The person on the phone repeated the best she could do is get someone out in two days, implying that I would have to pay for it. I declined to have someone come out from Precision and have to pay them to fix their mistake. I called another company that came out the same day (Sept 2). The technician reassembled the the door mechanism REPLACING NO PARTS, but added two screws that should have been in the cable drums when Precision did the work. These screws were needed to keep the drums from slipping on the crossbar. The bottom line is the work Precision did fell apart after 6 days of use. I understand sometimes things happen and I did call and asked them to come out and fix it. The response I got was NO WARRANTY and I would have to pay for another service fee if I wanted to have it done again (although they would not warrant that the second time it would be done correctly either). Precision doesn't stand behind their work. So, in summary, I recommend you find someone else if you need garage door repair.
- Gerald Isenberg
Hello Mr. Isenberg- We are sorry to hear your disappointment in the service provided, as this is contrary to what we strive for. Our goal each day with every customer is to repair a garage door properly and safely, and provide excellent customer service. Per the technician’s inspection report and notations on July 26th, there were additional issues. However, the minimum fix was selected rather than the rebuild that was recommended. When you called on September 2nd, I offered to have a technician come out in 2 days because it was a holiday weekend and that was our next available appointment. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / Precision Garage Door Northern VA
,
To say I was disappointed is putting it milldly. From the outset I knew you had sent a salesman rather than a technician who was interested in solving a problem with one of my garage doors. Receiving the 6 optiions , which was absurd, listing repairs/replacement on 9 year old doors made no sense. One door was hardly ever in use. I suspected the one door opener on the wall was defective. Ordered from Amazon $56.74. Problem solved. Apparently testing the door opener never occured to your salesman/technician. Regret this happened, especially my payment of $175 for nothing.
- Charles Rowzie
Mr. Rowzie- Thank you for sharing your feedback. We always aim to deliver a positive experience for our customers. We apologize that our service did not satisfy your expectations. It was an uncommon instance. Our technicians conduct a 25 point safety inspection on each door. Through this inspection it was determined and noted that several items failed. Three estimate options were provided for each of your doors (Good – Better – Best). We address the issues from an inspection so that our customers are made aware and have repair options to choose from. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / Precision Garage Door NOVA

I had new springs installed 18 months ago and had a cable break recently. Certify insisted that they had to replace the 18 month old springs with new ones, which I find hard to believe. As a result my bill was double what it should have been. I do not recommend this company.
- John Kerins
Hello Mr. Kerins- We are sorry to hear the disappointment with your experience. Our goal each day with every customer is to repair a garage door properly and safely. I left you a voicemail and text message in hopes of discussing your issues and concerns, but unfortunately I have not heard back from you. This is the first time we have been to your residence, as another company provided the service work 18 months ago. Therefore, we do not know if you had the correct springs installed, the quality of the springs, and whether they were even new springs. The longevity of a spring is determined by the cycle life. The more you use your garage door, the sooner you are going to need new springs. Please know, 18 months ago, torsion springs were 1/3 the cost of what they are today. When your technician arrived this morning, your door was racked which is the most dangerous position a garage door can be. Part of your invoice today was the fee for the technician to bring your down into the safe position to be worked on. We recommend new parts that properly work together. We do not wind and unwind springs, according to insurance regulations. We do not provide “band-aide” repairs, as the safety of our customers, as well as our technicians, is top priority. The good news is that you called on the 4th of July holiday and we arrived the following morning to service your door. Your technician is knowledgeable, experienced, and walked you through recommended options that would address all the issues identified in the inspection report. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / Precision Garage Door Northern VA

They replaced the motors on my garage doors recently. Within 2-3months, one of the metal plates detached from the door. It cost me $330 to have them come out and spend 20 minutes fixing their shoddy work. They will gouge you! Avoid if possible.
- Barry Angeline
Mr. Angeline- We are sorry to hear your disappointment, as this is contrary to what we strive for each and every day with our customers. It has been nearly a year since we replaced your garage door operators, which are covered under warranty. The part that was broken and needed to be replaced yesterday was not related to any of the work previously provided. I’m glad we had the opportunity to discuss your appointment and to know that you are pleased with the technician. Unfortunately, our pricing for repair and parts are a reflection of the dramatic increase in everything from fuel, insurance, and parts cost across the board. The good news is that we were able to provide the repair in less than 24 hours of your call, the technician arrived on time, and completed the work in a timely manner. Do not have parts
- Praveen Shyamala
Mr. Shyamala, We’re sorry to hear your disappointment with your appointment and the Precision experience. This is contrary to what we seek to do each and every day. Please know, we did have the parts on the truck to fix your garage door. As the technician explained, you have a Wayne Dalton door with the torquemaster system. The torquemaster has particular components that cannot be repaired. It must be replaced. We offered to take an obsolete system and convert it to a system that has been around since the beginning of the overhead garage door and can be worked on by any garage door company. Also with a torsion mechanical lift system, when something breaks, a part can replaced for the repair, rather having to replace the entire system. It’s simply a better solution. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / PDS Northern Virginia

I was told by the technician Patrick, that he would give me a 90 day warranty on only the parts he installed which were 2-high cycle tempered springs. However, after he called the office, they declined to honor that. It isn't alot to ask, that you should give a warranty on the parts you install. And at the very least, have consistency with the tech & office as to what's been promised to the customer. :(
- Jackie Ghorbani
Dear Ms. Ghorbani- We are sorry for the negative experience. What you described in your review does not fit what Precision Garage Door of Northern Virginia stands for and how we do business. Customer satisfaction and customer safety are our priority. Per our conversation, we are glad to know you are pleased with the service provided. As you mentioned, your car was trapped and you reached out to other companies that were not able to provide service for several days. We were able to service your garage door and broken spring within an hour of your phone call. We apologize for the misunderstanding and misinformation regarding the warranty. Per the technician’s inspection report, there were many issues with your garage door and mechanical lift system. He provided 3 options and you selected option 1, which was what we call a “band aide” repair. Precision has specific warranty guidelines, and the minimal repair does not include a warranty. Option 2 has a 90 day warranty and option 3, which addresses and fixes all issues, has a one year warranty on parts and labor. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director / PDS Northern Virginia

If I could give a lower rating I would. Patrick the technician took advantage of the fact that we were not home but my 76 year old mother was there. He talked her into overhauling the whole garage door instead of just the simple fix it should have been. He charged her $884.00 without ever consulting me, the home owner. I will never use their company ever again.
- Tracey & jeff Scheidemantle
Hello Ms. Scheidemantle – As I said in our email correspondence, we are so sorry to hear your frustration and disappointment. I have reviewed the information (estimates and invoice) and spoke with the technician, Patrick, as well as the owner. There were 3 estimates provided for 3 different options that were recommended based on the 25 point safety inspection of your garage door and operator. The options range from the most minimal repair, to a solution that will leave your garage door in tip top shape and you won’t need additional work and repairs done in the near future. We were assured by the adult in the home that she was making the decision on the repair work and wanted it fixed right so there would be no worries. (per the invoice provided with the options and signature of authorization for the work). We want our customers to be happy and pleased with the service and repair work, so your email and review are completely contrary to what we strive for. We would gladly provide a more detailed overview or conversation of the inspection report and options that were provided. Sincerely, Suzanne, Managing Director, 540-645-5004

Precision implies a degree of accuracy, although Kevin was very competent and professional, arriving after 7pm for a 4-6pm window does not convey precision. I departed work early to ensure I was home by 4pm. As my garage door stood open for hours due to the broken spring, I felt I had no choice but to accept what I felt was a very high charge for this simple replacement. It was after 7pm, 30 degrees and this needed to be done. I received a phone call at 5:55pm to let me know about the late arrival. No compensation nor apology was offered for the tardiness. I did receive an explanation for the late arrival, a “quick” job on the way to my home which turned out to be in McLean, not Burke. I will think again about calling Precision for any additional work at my home.

First let me make it clear that this review is about the company's policies and business practices, not the installer. The installer was fine, but the company he works for is dishonest. I called them, and they gave me a quote. The phone-quote for the new spring was 2-times as much as the same spring from online retailers, plus they add an $89 service fee just to show up. Not great, but if I wanted to do it myself it would take days to deliver a new spring. I didn't want to wait that long, so I thought "$180 is about 3-times what it would cost to do myself, but at least it will be fixed the next day". I was wrong. The total price ended up being almost $350 to replace just one spring (it's a single door) and cable. That's 6-times as much as it would cost to do myself! If the company had been honest about their astronomical spring markups when I made the appointment, that would be one thing but they weren't honest at all. The phone price was completely unrealistic. Lesson learned: Order a spring from on online retailer for $50-$60 BEFORE it breaks, set it aside for the day the old spring breaks, and when that day comes save yourself $300!

We had Precision Door come out to give us an estimate on fixing a broken spring in our garage door. My wife was home when they arrived and she immediately felt like she was getting the condescending “this woman won’t know if we are overcharging her” sales pitch. She was told that because of the proprietary lift system that the CHEAPEST option to get the door operable again was going to be over $800. There were *no* other options given. She told them no thank you. We later had multiple quotes given to us and *every single quote* was under $300. Needless to say we went with another service and now have a fully functional garage door for ONE THIRD the minimum cost we were quoted by Precision. And Precision’s $85 service call fee adds insult to injury. We had to pay them $85 to come out to our home and try to rip us off. I wouldn’t recommend Precision if they were the last garage door service on Earth. I’d rather live with a broken garage door than give these crooks a penny.

The $85 "service visit fee" was clearly designed to sell me a new garage door opener and not diagnose the problem with the current opener. The rep asked how hold the unit was and he then quickly started typing up a quote for a new opener. He didn't even open the cover of the unit to begin to diagnose the problem. Simply, he said, I need a new opener at $800 and new rollers. The $85 visit fee was a rip-off.

Spring on the garage door broke. Called to have emergency service. We subsequently found out that the charges appeared to be twice what other garage door repair companies charge. We called to voice our concerns and were offered a $25 rebate. We were dissatisfied with the charges and we wiould not consider using your service in the future.

My garage door opener only needed a $15 part replaced. Precision was only interested in selling me a new garage door opener. I ordered the part online and replaced myself in under 30 mins. Feels as though I paid $125 for a sales pitch.

I called Precision this morning from work hoping to have my garage door fixed today. The person on the phone was very nice and accommodating. After speaking with to the receptionist I knew the price was a little high but it seemed as though the company was one worth working with. When the technician showed up he tried to up sell my wife to the price point of over 3 times that of which was discussed on the phone. She called me at work and spoke with the technician and the price came down about 30%. Still 2 times the amount discussed. It is unfortunate that companies feel they can take advantage of people in this manner. I do know the cost of this job. I was at work and wanted to get the job done. I was willing to pay for that convenience of the work done. I was not willing to be taken advantage of. The technician also tried to tell my wife how our house is not safe. This tactic is not acceptable. My house is safe. The garage doors have been working fine. I had to pay a high price for this unfortunate experience. I will not make this mistake again.
- Donald and Ann Leaf
Mr. Leaf, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. On 1/27/15 you called Precision Door to request a technician come to your home as you had a broken spring on your garage door. We sent our technician out right away. Upon arrival the technician performed a 25-point inspection on your 3 Garage Doors and Openers. After the thorough inspection it was determined on Invoice #80428 that the following problems were found with your doors. Door #1 had a broken extension spring, frayed lift cables as well as safety cables that were not secured as recommended by the manufacturer. Door #2 was unbalanced, had frayed lift cables and the safety cables were not secured properly. Door #3 was unbalanced due to fatigued extension springs, frayed cables and extension safety cables that were also not properly secured. At that point Ms. Leaf understood and wanted to go ahead and have the doors repaired but of course wanted to speak with you first. When speaking with the technician regarding the prices and how they were more than you wanted to spend, or thought they should be, the technician gave you other options for only having partial repairs done; explaining the drop in price. Accordingly, Being a licensed contractor that specializes in safe garage door repair we follow both the DASMA and IDA recommendations for repairs and procedures; anything that can present a possible hazard such as the items listed above cannot be ignored. We install our products in accordance with specific installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. The Federal Register states by the Secretary of the Consumer Product Safety Commission “Keep Garage Door Properly Balance. See owner’s manual. An improperly balanced door could cause severe injury or death. Have a qualified service person make repairs to cables, spring assemblies and other hardware” We would love for you to give us a chance to fix your door in a safe and proper manner and would be willing to waive the service fee ($125 value) to return to your home in 2015 should you decide to have us do the work on your doors. The Management Team at Precision Door
The person who did the repair promised to email me a copy of the invoice and the receipt. 4 hours after completing the work, I still have not received any of the documents nor did I get the warranty paper for the work performed.
